Talking About Weather For Roseville CA Area

Thank you for sharing....

Post-Holiday Rainy Weather for Roseville CA

Christmas is over, New Year's Eve is fast approaching, and our Roseville / Sacramento area has been enjoying rainy days AFTER most of the shopping is done which is wonderful for many. (Not so much for me as I HAD to go grocery shopping yesterday in the midst of it. But I can't complain as we REALLY appreciate the rain in the midst of our drought!) And I know some of my readers and clients are now asking, “How much rain DOES Roseville get?” “For that matter – how much rain does the Sacramento Valley Area get?” Maybe you are even asking, what IS the normal weather for Roseville CA – In the Sacramento Valley area?

Talking Weather for Roseville CA

I am not a weatherwoman – not even as a hobby. But we do have some excellent ones in our area as well as other great resources. So I went digging to find more information to add to my other posts on this topic like the following (just click on each to be taken to the article):

Odds of a Normal Water Year in Sacramento Area (which would include Roseville CA)

Here's a video from one of our local news shows – ABC10 – discussing the odds of a “normal” water year in Sacramento. It was published approximately July 2022.

Roseville CA Ratings on Sperling's BestPlaces.net

Sperling's BestPlaces.net reports, among many other things, that:

Summer High: the July high is around 94 degrees
Winter Low: the January low is 39
Rain: averages 21 inches of rain a year
Snow: averages 0 inches of snow a year

BESTPLACES COMFORT INDEX

The annual BestPlaces Comfort Index for the Roseville area is 8.2 (10=best), which means it is more comfortable than most places in California.

8.2 / 10
A higher score indicates a more comfortable year-round climate. The US average for the comfort index is 7.8.

Not Normal Weather for Roseville CA

Now, it's important to note, the info above from Sperling's is averaged.  For the last few years, we have been classified to be in a drought so obviously, we have probably had less rain than the average. We have also been known to have extremely WET years. I remember in 1995 when we had a long and extremely wet storm move through that caused flooding to houses very close to some of our Roseville creeks. We had moved here in 1994, just missing the Northridge earthquake, only to be around the following year for all the flooding issues. The reality, though, is that most of us did not have flood issues. In fact, most of Roseville is NOT in a floor plain. And most of the flood zone area has no properties. Only 7% of Roseville homes are in flood zones. And as a result of that storm, Roseville, which had already been working at shoring up our flood safety, worked even harder to shore up our creeks and the end result is a safer city. In fact, “By implementing good floodplain management practices, Roseville became the first community in the nation to receive the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA’s) Community Rating System (CRS) highest rating of Class 1. This rating allows Roseville property owners up to a 45 percent discount on their flood insurance premiums.” Click here to read more details about all of this.

Current Weather for Roseville CA 2022

This week, as I mentioned earlier, we are having rainstorms. In fact, a large portion of our west coast is having an “atmospheric river” that is bringing heavy rain and strong winds!” Happily, it's not a normal thing AND it will also probably help us with our drought conditions.

The Joys of Delta Breezes in Roseville Sacramento Area Weather

Speaking of the Sperling scores that also included info about our summer heat – mentioned above, I personally think they should bump our overall score up an extra point at least since we also have the awesome Delta Breezes throughout the late spring, all summer, and into early autumn which can make even the hottest day seem much cooler!

Per the Sacramento Bee, in their article, “What is the Delta breeze and why do Sacramentans love it so much?”

“The Delta breeze is a cold, moist sea breeze, experts said, that comes to parts of Sacramento from the San Francisco Bay Area. ‘Air currents from the Bay and North Bay-Napa area drift through the Carquinez Strait,' said Ian Faloona, an atmospheric scientist and professor at the University of California, Davis. ‘Then, they come inland, feeding both the Sacramento and the San Joaquin valleys.'”

I am happy to say that our delta breeze is WONDERFUL! I have literally gone walking on a triple digit summer day and as long as there was a delta breeze AND I walked mostly in the shade, it was fine. Hot…but fine. For me anyway 😊. And a welcome change after my first umpteen years in sunny inland southern California with hot summers and NO Delta breeze.

We have NO SNOW in Roseville or Sacramento either. Well, very VERY little. (Except, of course, at our Christmas tree lighting click the pix above to see some 😀.) We do enjoy some rain – less in drought-y years, more in those occasional stormy years. And we have plenty of sunshine coupled with awesome delta breezes. Yup, I think Roseville has GREAT weather overall. How about you?
