Sun City Roseville Activities
Roseville Sun City is a beautiful place for boomers and seniors to live as well as a lovely place to visit. Autumn this year has been so lovely and colorful! It's a lot of fun too! Of course, golfers enjoy the two golf courses immensely. With their 9-hole Sierra Pines Golf Course and their 18-hole Timber Creek Golf Course, there are plenty of great options all year long. And while playing, you can also enjoy the lovely autumn colors, the delightful birds all around, the beautiful scenery in the preserves, and so many delightful Sun City Roseville activities centered around all that is a part of the lovely master planned Roseville Sun City Retirement Golf Course Community
Not a golfer? Don't worry. You'll have plenty of company. I have met so many boomers and seniors who live in Sun City Roseville who don't golf. But they love the wide variety of Sun City Roseville activities they find at the beautiful Lodge. Among the current list of Sun City Roseville Clubs and Activities you'll find:
- Chartered Groups Include: Billiards, Boomer Generation, Bridge, Computer, Creative Arts, Croquet, Dance, Garden, Investors, Needle Arts, Pickleball, Singers, Travel, Water Fitness and more.
- Resident Groups Include: Banjo, Basketball, Bunco, Cycling, Guitar, Harmonicoots, Pinochle, Rod and Reel, SCR Birders, Table Tennis, Ukulele, Volleyball, and more
There are other Sun City Roseville activities as well including the Roseville Sun City Citizens Patrol and Neighborhood Watch with regular meetings and visits from Roseville police officers, fire fighters, civic leaders and others. I especially appreciate the great group of people involved in the Sun City Roseville Foundation, working hard to help Sun City residents with a variety of needs – from replacing a fluorescent light bulb (THANK YOU!) to helping with caregiver needs and more!
The Roseville Sun City Fitness Center, including the two large and lovely swimming pools, is constantly busy whenever I pop over there.
The Timber Creek Lodge where you'll find the meeting rooms for many of the Sun City Roseville Clubs, the Timbers restaurant, the Timber Creek Ballroom and more! You name it, there's probably something there for everyone. And if something is missing, maybe you can help start a group for that? 😉
My favorite of the Sun City Roseville activities? The captivating and photogenic opportunities all over this beautiful master planned retirement community in the heart of West Roseville, California. I have so much fun walking and taking photos of flowers, trees, homes, home decor, and CUTE CRITTERS!
Roseville Sun City Critters
I especially love taking photos of the many adorable critters around the Sun City Roseville CA homes, golf courses, and open spaces. My very favorite are the egrets you can spot here and there. Maybe it's because they are among the rarest of the cute critters that abound here. I used to spot them mostly over on Pleasant Grove across from Sun City Blvd. Now you can often spot them at the Timber Creek Golf Course right across the street from the Roseville Sun City Lodge.
I was delighted to discover that the two Roseville Sun City Golf Courses – Timber Creek Golf Course and Sierra Pines Golf Course – are Certified Audubon Bird Sanctuaries and have been since 2004, at the membership level ACSP for Golf. Per the Audubon website,
“ACSP for Golf is a widely recognized and highly-regarded education and certification program that helps protect our environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf. Golf courses are guided through projects in the categories of Environmental Planning, Wildlife and Habitat Management, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation, Water Quality Management, and Outreach and Education.”
According to the Audubon's Stewardship News, September, October 2004, the Sun City Roseville Bird Sanctuary designation also means
“they have committed themselves to helping Audubon International help people help the environment as part of the Audubon Steward Network. Stewards serve as a source of knowledge, good advice, enthusiasm, and encouragement. They answer questions via phone or e-mail, conduct site visits, put on workshops, and assist members with certification.”
Sounds like an excellent resource, indeed! And wise to have with all the interesting and intriguing birds we have in this community!
Besides the egrets, I have enjoyed seeing geese, ducks, hummingbirds, robins, and a variety of other birds whose names I don't know. The Sun City Roseville (SCR) Birders group joins Audubon groups all around the United States for their annual December Bird Count that has been going on since Christmas Day 1900.
From December 14 through January 5 each year tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas brave snow, wind, or rain, and take part in the effort. Audubon and other organizations use data collected in this long-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations, and to help guide conservation action.
Last year, per the February 2017 Courier –
“Our count this year was done on December 28th, at 8:00 am in 31 degree weather. We were lucky there was no wind or rain. Our total specie count was 63, above the high last year of 59. Total individuals was 1176, down from last year. The anomaly may be caused by an extremely high count of 400 American Robins last year with only 75 this year. This year there were 49 gulls counted, last year 0. The white Crowned Sparrow, our most common sparrow, had 32 this year but 55 in 2015…”
Of special interest to me? They counted:
- “Egrets – Snowy-11 Great-8,
- Heron – Great Blue-2 Green-3.
I had no idea we had Great Blue Herons and Green Herons in addition to my beloved Egrets. Egrets, by the way, are also in the Heron family. Fascinating! 🙂
Other cute critters you might spot while out and about in this lovely Sun City Roseville active senior living community, while enjoying the delightful autumn weather, include:
- Turkeys
- Rabbits or Hares (I'm not sure which, but they sure have long ears and are FAST!
- Fish – especially mosquito eating fish (YAY!)
- DEER! Though sadly, I personally haven't spotted one yet. But a few NextDoor neighbors have and I'm hoping to one of these days! 🙂
- And right across from Sun City Blvd. and Pleasant Grove, on one of the many Roseville walking trails that criss-cross the city, including Roseville Sun City, you may get to enjoy the fun sights of our beloved Roseville goats, happily munching away on grass and weeds and helping to keep our area fire-safer in a wonderful way. 🙂

What an interesting history of the Roseville Sun City retirement community golf courses!
“Billy Casper and Greg Nash teamed up to design Timber Creek and Sierra Pines, they sought to gracefully incorporate the courses through the community and also to carefully preserve sensitive environmental areas, including our designated bird sanctuary. Sierra Pines, and the front 9 of Timber Creek – The Lakes – are noted for their lovely ponds and waterfalls. The back 9 of Timber Creek – The Oaks – is noted for being almost secluded within the groves lining its fairways.”

Map Sun City Roseville CA
Curious where the two golf courses are located within Roseville Sun City? Me too! It's a bit hard to find sometimes with Google Maps. I've learned to look up Timber Creek Ballroom or Sun City Roseville Lodge in Google – as both of those pop up quickly with the address, which is 7050 Del Webb Blvd, Roseville CA 95747. The green areas are the two golf courses. I've labeled them in the map. The stars in the map represent the approximate location for the Sierra Pines Golf Course Pro Shop and Deli which is off Whistlestop and Del Webb (towards the top of the map) and the Timber Creek Lodge and Shop adjacent to Rose Garden Lane (towards the bottom of the map). The fitness center is closest to Rose Garden and the Golf shop is at the opposite end, heading towards Sun City Blvd. 😀
