Independent senior living, retirement communities, 55+ homes, aging in place, active seniors.
These are some of the primary phrases used to describe master planned communities and residences that are geared for boomers and seniors, 55 years old and up.
Fun Independent Senior Living
The goal of these homes is to provide a safe, pleasant and fun living environment for those who are ready to downsize. For the younger seniors, there are usually plenty of great activities from tennis, golf, swimming, bocce and more to computer clubs, singing groups, sewing guilds, plus.

Sun City Roseville offers a wide variety of these fun options.
The Club at Westpark by Del Webb, offers many as well.
Independent Senior Living Options
For older seniors, you'll usually find a good selection of activities coupled with some extra safety and aging in place options for continued independent senior living. West Roseville CA is home to more than a couple good examples of that. One in particular caught my eye a while back when my senior mom and I were out visiting various homes for sale and for rent.
Silverado Homes at Eskaton Village
The retirement community at Silverado Homes at Eskaton Village Roseville is one of the Eskaton family of retirement communities. This particular one, located in West Roseville, is considered a multi-level community. It includes independent living with services, assisted living, and memory care.
Independent Senior Living Resort
When you live in one of the lovely Silverado homes in Eskaton Village Roseville, you might feel like you are living in a lovely hotel resort, with a Village Center similar to the clubhouses at Sun City Roseville and The Club at Westpark. It includes a large swimming pool, a great fitness room, a delightful bistro, a library onsite, and more. Plus there are plenty of shops, restaurants, parks, libraries, and golf courses easily available within just a few miles. And yes, they also have resident transportation. All are vital components in healthy independent senior living and safe aging in place.
Great Safety Options
Then Silverado Homes at Eskaton Village Roseville goes further. They provide a gift shop, weekly housekeeping, a barber shop/beauty salon, on-site maintenance services and restaurant dining. And yes! They can have their meals delivered to their homes! Not only that! In addition to great aging in place options like zero step entry, wider door entrances for walkers and wheelchairs, etc., they also provide “smart sensor technology” with an emergency response system with a pull cord unit inside and optional necklace pendant (for an extra fee). Plus they offer 24-hour on-site staff in case of emergencies. In fact, the smart sensors can also transmit information to help catch a problematic health issue that might be developing. Doesn't that sound awesome!
Extended Health Options
They complement the independent senior living options with 72 assisted living apartments and memory center options to provide physical therapy services and other home-health services and support through Eskaton preferred service providers. Their goal is to enable owners to remain in their homes for as long as they want.
Lovely Aging in Place Options
As far as the independent living homes at Silverado Homes at Eskaton Village go, they are lovely! I thoroughly enjoyed the tour we took of the model homes. I was surprised at how large many of them were. Built by Silverado Homes, a premier home builder that partnered with Eskaton to provide a lovely homestyle for senior citizens, allowing them to age in place while staying as independent as possible. I appreciate that the homes feature zero-step entry, extra-wide doorways, walk-in showers, (some even have roll in showers) etc. All of these are accompanied by lovely decor inside and out. And unlike many other options through the years, these homes are fully owned (well, as fully as possible – depending on any loan on the property).
What's Currently Available?
Floorplan Varieties
This gated community has a wide variety of delightful floorplans including one two-story – with the upstairs in that home just being a small “mini-apartment.” Perhaps that would be a good spot for a caregiver – giving them and the carees a bit of privacy.
Minimal Maintenance
Maintenance is definitely minimal with no lawn care – just tiny patios and patio gardens. It appears that all the outside areas are maintained by the HOA including exterior painting, roofs, landscaping and irrigation, and even gutter cleaning.
There are no sidewalks and the streets are very quiet – one of the joys of a gated community. Homes come with assigned parking and assigned guest parking spaces.
Great Choice for Senior Citizens
The grounds are lovely, the care choices are great, and the options are many. Silverado Homes at Eskaton Village in West Roseville is definitely a welcome choice for many boomers and seniors and our elderly parents, desiring quality aging in place options along with safe and healthy independent senior living for as long as possible. It's definitely on my list of resources for future reference.
