Looking for Fun Things To Do In Roseville?
Tis the Season for one of my favorite fun things to do in Roseville CA! The season to watch the adorable “Roseville Goats,” as they are fondly referred to! Every winter and spring it rains and we have lovely green grass and sometimes even beautiful puddles and ponds in our greenbelt areas including along Pleasant Grove
Every late spring and summer, those puddles and ponds and green grass give way to dry brown dead grass – PERFECT food for foraging Roseville Goats. And so those cute goats arrive! They come every summer to keep our wild area and grasses “munched” down. Even during the recent budget crunch, they still came – albeit not as many. Their munching helps protect us from wildfires. They are cheaper, quieter, and less smelly than traditional lawn mowers and blowers. And they're so CUTE! One of the many fun things to do in Roseville CA is DEFINITELY goat watching. In fact, watching them is actually healthy – I can FEEL my blood pressure dropping as I stand their talking to them! ๐
Fun Things Postponed
Last week, as I was driving off to meet real estate clients, they were happily munching away in the wetlands across from the Del Webb Sun City Roseville golf and retirement community in West Roseville. I really wanted to walk over and watch them but my schedule didn't allow for it. But this week, while heading off to show homes to real estate clients, I realized they had just been moved to the other side of the trees in the lovely greenbelt area next to Mahany Park!ย Right along some of our delightful walking trails. So I marked them in my calendar for the next day and was very happy to be able to keep that date with them.
And hooray – they were still there. Check them out!
LOVE My iPhone Camera!
I enjoyed a brisk walk along Pleasant Grove in the MORNING due to the recent heat. And there they were. Not as close as I'd like but thanks to my iPhone 11pro cameras, the video closeups came out pretty well I think – how about you?
Do NOT Touch The Fence!
Be cautious if you spot them and stop to goat watch. There is an electric fence surrounding them at all times. And I assure you – it works! (Yes, I accidentally touched it once!) Very wise idea of theirs, I must say. There's also a lovely dog that helps to supervise them along with their shepherd (goatherder?) as well though I rarely can see either of them.
Sun Bathers Vs Meanders And Climbers
The day I made this video, the group was divided between the relaxing “sun bathers” – enjoying laying out in the sun – and the more active goats off in the shade munching, meandering, and sometimes attempting to climb the trees for the yummy leaves up higher. It took me quite a while, but I FINALLY was able to capture one of the climbing goats up close. ๐ That's definitely one of my favorite and fun things to do in Roseville. In fact, I love to capture ANY of our cute Roseville critters on film!
Technical Disclaimers
Technical disclaimers – you will notice occasional zooming in and out as I tried to get the best shots for you. Eventually I went from the 2x optical zoom (which is supposed to be the best quality) on up to 5 of 6 digital zoom. Thanks to the camera quality in my iPhone 11 Pro – I think that looked just as good as the 2x. What do you think?
One other issue – Pleasant Grove is one of our busier streets (along with Blue Oaks, Fiddyment, Foothills, Baseline…. So you do hear some traffic noise going on through most of the video. But they're so cute to watch I think you'll still enjoy it. ๐
Your Turn!
Have you ever seen the Roseville goats in person yet? What did you think of the quality of the various zooms? Ok, not-so-ok, great?
