Great Aging in Place For Boomers
As long-time readers may have noticed, boomers and seniors, multigenerational and aging in place are all favorite topics of mine.
With years of experience as a caregiver to senior parents at various times through our lives, I've learned a lot of practical tips and resources that I love to share with my real estate clients of all ages including fellow baby boomers. I also love to share homes I've listed that are, themselves, excellent resources for boomers and seniors dealing with multigenerational needs, aging in place needs or both.
Today I have a gorgeous home for sale that could work for any or all of those issues. I know that because I had a home that was very similar and shared it with my senior parents during my dad's last year as he dealt with the end-stages of Parkinsons Disease and hospice. I turned the master bedroom bathroom suite into a little apartment complete with a tiny refrigerator and microwave.
That way, they could have peace and quiet when my kids and grandkids came by or friends came to visit. They could pop out as often as they liked to visit and head back to their “own place” when they got tired. And that left me free to enjoy visits from friends and family without stressing. A win-win set-up during a difficult season of life.
Tour Home in West Roseville
This lovely home, located in the heart of the Woodcreek Oaks neighborhood, has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 1770 square feet. Its bedroom layout could work well, as my house did, once upon a time.
This large corner lot, which is big enough for more than one RV in the side yard, has beautifully landscaping that is well designed for easy maintenance. (Always nice for busy boomers and seniors, not to mention caregivers!
As you walk into the home, you may notice that it has Ring Doorbell already installed. If you haven't heard of that security device, (it's wonderful and our Roseville police officers have recommended it at various community meetings) you can get more details at their website. In addition, the home is wired with an ADT security system. Great safety tools both and especially handy for those with senior parents at home while you are out and about. As I understand it, with The Ring you can use your smart phone to answer the door even if you're miles away.
Once you've entered this delightful home, you will enjoy seeing the beautiful entry way with tile flooring. The formal living and dining room enjoy an abundance of natural lighting that is a sweet delight as are the french doors leading out to the secluded and lovely side patio. A great place to entertain guests or just relax after a long day of work.
Continuing on to the kitchen / family room / great room, you'll notice the three skylights in the ceiling, including one with a screen. That should work well in conjunction with another bonus this house offers – a whole house fan! With the hot summer we've had, I'm really wishing I still had my whole house fan that provided inexpensive and speedy cooling during the hot summer months (or if you're like me – all through the year. 😉 ). With this home, you won't have to wish for that!
This great room concept for the kitchen / family room has always been a favorite of mine. So nice to be able to talk to family or friends while working in the large and lovely kitchen. This one is especially nice thanks to the huge popular farmhouse sink – that can handle large pots and casserole pans as easily as cereal bowls. And the convection oven, conventional oven and microwave will make it easy for you whether you whipping up a gourmet meal, heating up leftovers, or preparing a holiday meal.
In addition the skylights, the family room has speakers wired into the ceiling. Once you connect it to your TV – perhaps over the fireplace mantel – you're ready for a movie night in your very own home. Grab the popcorn and soda and have a grand time!
As you walk down the hallway, you'll pass a bedroom (currently being used as a den). At the end of the hall, turn left and enter the large relaxing master bedroom. There, you'll enjoy a private entry to the beautifully landscaped and easy to maintain back yard, complete with a lovely patio and the extra shade the gazebos provide.
This is a master suite with attached bathroom and walk-in closet. The master bath has a separated tub and shower with plenty of room in the shower for a shower chair if needed. Very handy for all ages, including boomers and seniors. And wow! The decorator mirror over the two bathroom sinks is gorgeous. I also loved the large walk-in closet.
The lovely, recently remodeled and upgraded, second bathroom is down the hall by the third and fourth bedrooms. It has a beautiful and stylish walk-in shower making it very accessible for a wide variety of needs.
The two bedrooms, with closets, are a comfortable size. All the bedrooms and the family room have fans. Most are controlled by wall switches. Very handy, indeed.
At the end of the hallway you'll discover the generous-sized laundry room with cupboards and plenty of room for full-sized washers and dryers. Not only that, as you walk through the laundry room into the garage, you'll appreciate the laundry sink. Giving you a practical and useful “mud-room” for those days when you've enjoyed working in the yard or other enjoyable outdoor projects.
Speaking of this three-car garage, it has built-in cabinets as well as a gorgeous flooring you rarely get to enjoy in a garage. That big of a garage offers an abundance of resources to all and especially boomers and seniors – including caregivers – who might be juggling walkers and wheelchairs at some point. Or if you're like me – juggling walkers, wheelchairs, strollers, and more. (Grandkid fun! 😉 )
Boomers and Seniors “Retirement Savings Account”
I like to think of buying a home with practical aging in place options as a “baby boomers retirement savings account” since you are not only making a wise investment. You can also reap the “interest” through the many handy options it will provide will living there. 😉
More Options
Of course, you don't have to be a boomer or senior to enjoy this lovely home. This offers great options for so many, including young families with children, professionals with home offices, and more! I do love a home with lots of great options, don't you?
